Who we are

Ruff Necks CIC is formed of active performers, qualified teachers and theatre makers. Our community driven projects are rooted in social change: giving those in our community with the least advantages the opportunities to experience the freedom of creative expression!

Our projects: Shakespeare Swung

Imagine a Shakespeare text… Then flip it on its head. That is Shakespeare Swung.

Through a series of workshops, our community participants take on the creative journey of an adapted Shakespearian play. Heavily focussed on movement, staging and musical composition, the workshops are a celebration of creative expression and freedom.

Whilst we love Shakespeare in its purest form, we want our work to be as accessible as possible for our participants. Whether this is taking each workshop at their own individual pace or our writers using their own creativity for our version of Shakespearean storytelling.

Our call to action

Some would describe the current status of education as an ‘Arts Apocalypse’. The arts are heavily underfunded and undervalued despite the evidence of how vital the arts are in supporting our social and emotional wellbeing.

At Ruff Necks, we believe in bringing the positive power of the arts to everyone, not just those who are financially more able. Our projects provide this curriculum enriching process through the arts, that acts as both an emotional intervention and a springboard into reigniting young peoples’ creativity.
